T-Mobile G1 Android RC30 root exploit released
If you have a T-Mobile G1 running Android RC30, you lost the ability to get root on your cell phone. Â Finally, hackers have found a way to return to RC29, which will allow you to get to the root exploit.
If you have NO IDEA what this means, don’t do it. Â You’re not losing any functionality that you can use right now. Â If you screw up, you could brick your phone, which means it’s worth tossing in the trash. Â I need root access so I can use my T-Mobile G1 as an Internet connection via Bluetooth tethering, which requires root.
Here are the steps, thanks to the Android DLS wiki:
- Format the SD card to FAT32 mode (this is sometimes needed. image not always found if other files are on the sd card)
- Copy image file DREAMIMG.nbh to the SD card. Â You can get this file from Megaupload or RapidShare.
- Turn the device power off and insert SD card
- Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry Boot loader mode
- Press Power button to start upgrade procedure
- After it finishes, press the trackball and perform a soft reset by pressing “Call” + “Menu” + “End” to reboot.
- Restart your phone
- At your phones desktop hit the <enter> key twice and then type “telnetd” and press <enter> again
- Download an Android Telnet client and connect to localhost.
