Why Men Marry Bitches
Date: July 24th, 2006, Filed under Be a Man
I couldn’t believe it until I actually went and picked up a copy. Sales ranking today at #535 at Amazon is a book that is being vacuumed up by thousands and thousands of modern women, and most men stare blankly in ignorance of the treasure that is contained between the covers. YouTube, one of my favorite “Web 2.0″ sites, may soon have their day in court, according to CNet.com. YouTube’s is a social network that allows members to post videos to the site to share with visitors. YouTube does not preview content, so it has been accused of being a rampant violator of copyright. In the article, a journalist has filed a lawsuit against YouTube for distributing a video he took in 1992 during the Los Angeles riots — 14 years ago. The Oil Report, July 24, 2006 by A.B. Dada and Mike Bryson
Date: July 24th, 2006, Filed under Oil Report
The oil industry is one of the largest State-Business cartels in the world, and most of the time we hear government blaming Big Business on oil’s rocketing price in dollars. Today, though, we see the volley back as the oil lobby lays some blame on government for the rising price of oil. Edward Murphy, downstream general manger at the American Petroleum Institute, said ethanol mandates, instead of the free-market approach, along with government prerogatives like gasoline price-gouging legislation, “exacerbate” the already high prices. The article continues: ethanol was first subsidized in 1978 and is currently empowered by the high prices and slow, but growing, commitment of automakers to create more vehicles that can run on E85 — 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. The Early Christian Attitude to War, by Laurence M. Vance
Date: July 24th, 2006, Filed under Anarcho-capitalism
Were the early Christians warmongers like too many Christians are today? Did they idolize the Caesars like some Christians idolize President Bush? Did they make signs that said “the emperor” similar to the ones we see on cars today that refer to Bush as “the president”? Did they make apologies for the Roman Empire like some Christian apologists make for the U.S. Empire? Did they venerate the institution of the military like many Christians do today? Who is most evil: The State or the Corporation?
Date: July 24th, 2006, Filed under Anarcho-capitalism
Last night at Jimmy’s Charhouse, one of the great restaurants in Libertyville, Illinois near my home, I ended up making two visits: the first was our usual 2 hour dinner (steaks and more steaks) at the bar, which always brings great conversations with one of the regulars. Jimmy’s is an odd restaurant because the regulars aren’t the usual drunk and disorderly types, but very well educated businessmen usually trying to get away from the wife for a few hours. I’ve met my share of conservatives, liberals and even a few libertarians here and there, and the better half and myself love to go and waste a few hours talking about any issue. Last night I sat with Brian, a 50-ish business traveler that finds himself in Illinois a dozen times a year. I see him at Jimmy’s enough to think he actually lives down the street, even though he’s from the DFW area (Grapevine, TX). Read this entire article at the anarcho-capitalism site.
On conspiracies and the demand for a more transparent government
Date: July 21st, 2006, Filed under Anarcho-capitalism
Yesterday’s article on conspiracy theories and government brought me quite a few dozen e-mails in protest from some regular readers of the site and the feed. While I appreciate the input and am striving to reply to everyone, I figured I would put my most consistent replies in a post today just to relieve some tension and frustration I’m sensing from some of my favorite contributors. Don’t forget that we do have an anarcho-capitalism forum where you can create an anonymous account and open the discuss to others — I much prefer forum discussions over e-mails when possible as it gives me new things to consider when others enter the debate. I still welcome and appreciate the e-mails and am not asking them to stop if you don’t like forum discussions. Read this entire article at the anarcho-capitalism site.
